The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that King Charles will meet with leaders of major artificial intelligence companies this week to discuss the need for shared principles to address growing concerns about the technology's threat to humanity. A Reuters dispatch to The Globe reports that King Charles will host executives from Nvidia, Google DeepMind, Microsoft-backed OpenAI, Anthropic and the U.K. Minister for AI to discuss how to harness AI technology for societal benefit and uphold human dignity, amid calls for a slowdown in its development. The AI debate resurfaced when two Anthropic researchers warned that the rapidly advancing technology could lead to human extinction soon. Anthropic chief executive officer Dario Amodei says companies must slow the pace of advance of AI models. Anthropic released a threat intelligence report last week showing that various actors used its Claude AI models for weapons development, cyber operations, surveillance and fraud. However, securing a global stand will be difficult: President Donald Trump rejected any talk of a slowdown on Sunday. Reuters says Britain prefers a light-touch approach to AI regulation, aligning more with the United States than the EU.
