The National Post reports in its Saturday, Nov. 15, edition that about 67 per cent of Canadians say it is unlikely a deal to lower U.S. tariffs will be achieved over the next half-year, according to a poll by Nanos Research Group for Bloomberg. A Bloomberg dispatch to the Post reports that about 28 per cent say it is likely and 3 per cent are unsure. President Donald Trump halted trade talks with Canada in October over an Ontario ad that used excerpts from an address by former president Ronald Reagan in which he criticizes tariffs. The survey suggests Canadians may be understanding of Prime Minister Mark Carney's inability so far to reach a deal with the president. Still, Bloomberg says their patience may wear thin the longer the trade impasse continues. Mr. Carney recently acknowledged a comprehensive deal was unlikely before CUSMA comes up for review in July, 2026.
