The Financial Post reports in its Tuesday, March 26, edition that the founder and interim chief executive officer of Lightspeed Commerce, Dax Dasilva, recently expressed his thoughts on the potential of a private equity buyout of payments firm Nuvei. A Bloomberg dispatch to the Post reports that Mr. Dasilva stated that the possibility of Nuvei going private has led him to consider whether Lightspeed should do the same. In an interview with La Presse, Mr. Dasilva explained that: "Nuvei is weighing whether it can do more as a private company. People have made the same comment to me about Lightspeed." Although Mr. Dasilva still believes that the stock market is a good place for Lightspeed, he wonders if going private would be a better option when considering current market conditions. He kept an open mind, saying that, "We are always open to these discussions." Lightspeed, which produces point-of-sale software for restaurants and other businesses, went public five years ago at $16 a share and hit a high of over $155 during the 2021 frenzy for speculative tech stocks.
