The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday, July 12, edition that Hillside Wealth Management portfolio manager Jason Del Vicario calls Meta one of his top picks. The Globe's Brenda Bouw writes that Meta is a stock Mr. Del Vicario bought in 2014 for $74 a share and has added to over the years -- including in February, 2022, for $210, June, 2022, for $150 and October, 2022, at $98 (all figures U.S.). He also trimmed it by between 2 and 5 per cent in May and July, 2023, February, 2024, and this past February. It currently makes up 15 per cent of Mr. Del Vicario's equity portfolio. It is another founder-owned-and-run company with a wide moat. Mr. Del Vicario notes that Meta's chief executive officer, Mark Zuckerberg, can be a polarizing figure, but it is difficult to argue with the impact his business, which includes Facebook and Instagram, has on the world. These platforms have 3.5 billion active daily users. Mr. Del Vicario says: "We don't see the money being poured into other innovations, such as the metaverse, as a major issue as long as the rest of its business continues to grow. We plan to own the stock for a long time unless its user numbers really start to crater."
