The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, July 15, edition that Mark Zuckerberg said on Monday that Meta plans to invest hundreds of billions to build large artificial intelligence data centres aimed at superintelligence. A Reuters dispatch to The Globe reports that the company has been engaging in a talent war for top engineers and has formed high-profile deals to accelerate the development of advanced machines. Its first data centre, Prometheus, is set to launch in 2026, while another, Hyperion, can scale up to five gigawatts in the coming years, according to Mr. Zuckerberg's post on Threads. He said: "We're building multiple more titan clusters as well. Just one of these covers a significant part of the footprint of Manhattan." Mr. Zuckerberg highlighted a SemiAnalysis report stating that Meta is set to be the first AI lab to launch a gigawatt-plus supercluster. He emphasized the strength of the company's core advertising business to justify the significant spending amid investor concerns about its return. He said, "We have the capital from our business to do this." Meta stock has risen more than 20 per cent so far this year. Meta reorganized its AI efforts last month under a division called Superintelligence.
