The Financial Post reports in its Friday edition that Meta's quarterly revenue forecast disappointed investors, increasing pressure on chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg regarding the company's sluggish gains from its substantial artificial intelligence investments. A Bloomberg dispatch to The Globe reports that Meta reported its lowest free cash flow in years, blaming rising expenses for AI projects, including data centres and smart glasses, potentially totalling $145-billion (U.S.) this year. Meta finances its investments through its Internet advertising business, but shareholders are becoming anxious about its sales and profit growth. Earlier this year, investors were concerned when Mr. Zuckerberg raised AI expenditure projections and expressed regret over the substantial spending on virtual reality and the Metaverse, which hasn t yielded significant returns. Recently, Mr. Zuckerberg assured investors that his focus on AI will eventually prove beneficial. "I get that this is a big investment and it's a big bet," Mr. Zuckerberg said. "We see the technology working. We're happy with the trajectory of the lab. I'm excited about the products that are coming. And we believe that this is going to be a big thing."
