The National Post reports in its Wednesday edition that on Friday, the Canadian government began public consultations on the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement, which is due for a joint review next year. The Post's Chris Knight writes that a new Pollera survey shows most Canadians doubt that U.S. President Donald Trump will honour any future trade deal. Among 2,712 adult Canadians surveyed, only 7 per cent believed he would definitely respect a new agreement, while 18 per cent thought he likely would. In contrast, 35 per cent felt he would probably break the agreement, and 30 per cent said he would definitely do so. Only 11 per cent were unsure. Liberal voters were more likely to believe Mr. Trump would break a deal (74 per cent) compared with Conservatives (51 per cent), but neither group had a majority who trusted him. Negative feelings about the United States are rising, with 44 per cent expressing very negative impressions and 26 per cent somewhat negative. Only 18 per cent felt somewhat positive, and just 5 per cent chose very positive. Recent polls show a decline in Canadian opinions of the U.S., with 41 per cent holding a very negative view in February, up from 34 per cent in January and 31 per cent in December.
