A Canadian Press dispatch to The Globe reports that attendees expressed their skepticism and frustration, with no one at the microphone offering support. Concerns were raised about the government's ability to regulate an industry set to invest billions in Alberta to meet rising global computing demands. "Albertans do not want data centres," said one man. Another woman told Mr. Glubish to "get your boxing gloves on" if another AI datacentre was being planned for the region. "Your words are nice, you explain things well, but I don't trust you, and I think that the people in this room agree with me," she said to big applause. Bek MacIntosh, an opponent of a data centre in the town of Olds, called her and the community's eight-month fight against the facility "pure hell" and "psychological warfare." She said the government should put proper safeguards in place for locals. Some who spoke at the event also aired concerns about the potential abuse of personal data and global surveillance.
