The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Sept. 12, edition that Raymond James analyst Steve Hansen says he is comfortable sticking with his "outperform" ranking for Methanex. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Hansen slashed his share target by $8 to $54 (all figures U.S.). Analysts on average target the shares at $56.73. The Globe says Mr. Hansen sympathizes with investor frustration over Methanex's "surprise" $2.05-billion acquisition of OCI Global's international methanol business. Mr. Hansen says in a note: "Many investors we spoke with [Monday] expressed frustration at the abrupt shift in strategy implied by the proposed OCI acquisition. To be clear, we 'get it' and we sympathize. After five long years of G3 development/construction (FID: Jul-19), we were finally on the doorstep to welcoming in the robust shareholder return/buyback story that we'd all been waiting for. But now we need to wait a little longer (18 mos.). An unexpected gut punch, to be sure, however, we're still inclined to believe that the medium-term benefits associated with this deal are compelling, and thus worth waiting for. ... We also remind investors that we're quickly approaching methanol's strongest seasonal period."
