The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, Dec. 11, edition that CIBC World Markets has reaffirmed its "outperformer" recommendation for Methanex. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that CIBC gave its share target an $11 boost to $59 (all figures U.S.). Analysts on average target the shares at $56.91. CIBC says in a note: "We foresee a favorable supply/demand balance given limited capacity additions and challenging greenfield economics (would need prices north of $425/ton). With a double-digit free cash flow (FCF) yield, 12-per-cent pro forma 2026E, we expect share repurchases to come back into view once the OCI business has been integrated. In our view, Methanex is well positioned to benefit from the nascent Trump 2.0 foreign policy. On the supply side, at the very least, a return to the maximum pressure campaign against Iran is likely to delay planned methanol capacity additions in that country and outright conflict could provide an immediate shock to global methanol prices if supply is knocked offline. At the same time, from a long-term feedstock standpoint, recent rightward changes in government are encouraging for increased gas exploration activities in New Zealand and Argentina."
