The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Oct. 26, edition that National Bank Financial analyst Cameron Doerksen has reaffirmed his "sector perform" recommendation for TFI International. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Doerksen knocked his share target down by $13 to $178. Analysts on average target the shares at $175.81. The Globe says Mr. Doerksen remains "positive" on the long-term prospects for TFI International. He expects a "better" freight backdrop in 2024. Nonetheless, Mr. Doerksen is taking a "more neutral stance" on the company following weaker-than-expected third quarter results. The Globe says Mr. Doerksen expects "at least one or two more quarters of challenging end markets." Mr. Doerksen says in a note: "We see earnings growth tailwinds in the coming quarters driven by margin improvement in the U.S. LTL [less-than-truckload] segment both from the improved market backdrop as well as from the company's margin enhancement initiatives. TFI shares performed well through the summer boosted by the failure of LTL competitor Yellow Corp. early in Q3. ... While there is upside to margins beyond 2024, we think the current estimates and valuation already reflect a meaningful improvement."
