The National Post reports in its Tuesday edition that the proposed changes to Canada's cannabis regulations are being cautiously welcomed by industry insiders. The Post's Bryan Passifiume writes that many believe that more needs to be done. The proposed changes cover a wide range of areas, including industrial hemp, growing rules and packaging regulations. They aim to make life easier for sellers while also addressing public health concerns. A synopsis from the Department of Health stated that Health Canada concedes that there are opportunities to make regulatory measures more efficient and streamlined without compromising public health and safety objectives in the Cannabis Act. The review recommended reducing administrative and regulatory burdens, a measure long sought after by stakeholders. Jennawae Cavion, owner of Calyx+Trichomes, a dispensary in Kingston, Ont., and executive director of NORML Canada, mentioned that the proposed changes are, for the most part, practical and align with existing regulations. She believes that they eliminate a lot of redundancy. While the response to the proposals is largely positive, some are disappointed that no changes were proposed concerning dose amounts for edibles.
