John Ulmer, the former investor relations man for defunct NEX listing Western Magnesium Corp., has filed a lawsuit against the company in the Supreme Court of British Columbia claiming that he was improperly fired from his job of seven years. Mr. Ulmer, a former professional football player, says that he learned he had been dismissed from his $100,000-per-year position on Dec. 10, 2025, when he could no longer access the company's servers. He claims that the company failed to treat him with "civility, decency, respect and dignity."

The allegations are contained in a notice of claim that Mr. Ulmer, 62, filed on Jan. 28, 2026, at the Vancouver courthouse. Mr. Ulmer, a resident of Burnaby who played for the B.C. Lions from 1985 to 1988, says that he began work at Western Magnesium's predecessor in April, 2019. His job description included ensuring a "positive and active flow of communication between the company and the community through press releases and event promotions," among other things.
